The Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) has confirmed that a fire at the Beetham Landfill, which started on Sunday night, has been contained.
The blaze, which reignited at the previously contained landfill site at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Monday, has prompted SWMCOL to temporarily close the Beetham facility to the public until further notice.
With all available resources deployed to manage and suppress the fire, the state waste management company has redirected waste collection services to the Forres Park Landfill in the interim.
The company has issued a health advisory urging members of the public—particularly individuals with respiratory conditions—to exercise caution when traversing the Beetham Highway and surrounding areas due to possible smoke impact from the ongoing containment efforts.
