On Monday, the TTT Limited family welcomed some very special guests who travelled from overseas to visit.
The enthusiastic students of the Guyana-based Christianburg-Wismar Secondary School visited TTT Limited for a better understanding of the various departments and how they come together to deliver the best products to our viewers and listeners across our platforms.
Welcomed warmly by Acting CEO Kimoy Thomas Williams, the group made their way through various departments, seeing and experiencing first-hand the equipment that is used daily and speaking to the professionals who work hard behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
According to CAPE Teacher at the school, Odessa James, having these types of experiences is important.
“Our children are doing Communication Studies, and in Guyana, Communication Studies is a must. So you have to cover Communication Studies, whether it’s your first year or your second year at CAPE. So I want them to see that it’s not just Communication Studies. You’re communicating all the time, whether it’s body language and so on and being a teacher and or a nurse is not the only profession you can have.”
Ms. James said these types of real-life, hands-on experiences are required as part of the CAPE syllabus, noting that Trinidad and Tobago was part of a list of countries where several topics can be experienced in one visit. The most important part, according to Ms. James, is applying real-world experiences to what is learned in their textbooks.
“Overall, I want them to come out of the isolated mentality that I could only look at the CAPE subjects but think about what you can add to the Caribbean, what you can add to your country by being able to be involved, being able to network. So I’m hoping that they stay together in terms of friends. A is the CAPE examination, because when we go back, we are relating what we would have observed, what we would have learnt here to what actually is happening in our textbooks.”
The students have a packed schedule in T&T, including visits to the UWI St Augustine, Hugh Wooding Law School, the Archbishop’s House, and other landmarks and institutions before they depart on Thursday.
