100% Passes And More: Bishop Anstey Celebrates Student Success

Scores of students were honoured for their outstanding achievements in academics and extracurricular activities on Thursday.

This came as Bishop Anstey High School, Port of Spain, hosted its annual awards ceremony, themed “Charting the Future with Passion and Purpose,” at Queen’s Hall.

A representative from the Ministry of Education, Simone Haynes-Noel, reminded the students that while passion and purpose are crucial for success, persistence is just as important.

“It is very easy to be passionate and purposeful when things are good, when conditions are ideal, but the true mark of achieving your goal and the true mark of success is being able to maintain that passion and purpose even in adverse conditions.”

Feature speaker and former student of Bishop Anstey, Dr. Jamelia Harris, encouraged the students to find their vocation and be open-minded to the many career paths that exist.

“I’m not suggesting that you need to become a politician, perhaps it’s better not to, or a judge, or have some high-profile job to contribute. Our teachers contribute, our nurses contribute, our plumbers contribute, our shopkeepers contribute, our artists contribute, we see it now in the Carnival season. Our athletes contribute.”

Acting Principal at Bishop Anstey High School, Port of Spain, Debby Boodhan, highlighted some of the school’s achievements.

“100% passes were obtained in 15 subjects, which were Add Math, Biology, Caribbean History, Chemistry, English A, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Principles of Business, Social Studies, Clothing and Textiles, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts.”

Ms. Boodhan also noted that the school has seen success in extracurricular activities such as track and field, the RBC Young Leaders Programme, and choir, to name just a few.
