One hundred young Tobagonians have been selected to take part in the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago’s nationwide Future Leaders Internship Programme (FLIP).
The orientation for the three-week programme was held simultaneously in both Trinidad and Tobago on Monday, with Tobago’s session taking place at the Shaw Park Complex.
According to TSTT’s Vice-President of Networks and IT, Rattan Boodram, the programme will give young persons not currently employed or enrolled in full-time tertiary education the opportunity to be exposed to key areas of TSTT’s operations.
“Our vision was simple: open doors, build capacity, and give young people a real shot at building a future they can be proud of. The response blew us away. Over 17,000 people signed up, more than 4,600 met the criteria, and 600 was the final tally, with 100 coming from Tobago.”
Manager of TSTT’s Tobago Operations, Onica Blackman, said FLIP is an investment in Tobago’s youth.
“You will get the chance to build digital and professional skills. Learn how different parts of a large company work, and see how your own talent fits into the world of work. You will be in one of the five areas: technical, sales, customer service, support services, or quality assurance but whatever your streams, you will be exposed to all sides of the business.”
The interns will also receive artificial intelligence training.
Vice-President of Customer Experience and Marketing, Reza Hosein, encouraged the young people to make full use of the opportunity.
“The telecom industry is vast and constantly evolving from 5G networks to fibre optics, from cloud computing to internet of things. There is a lot to learn. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Secondly, take the time to get to know your colleagues, your mentors, and your fellow interns.”
