The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs has confirmed that 110 Trinidad and Tobago nationals have been impacted by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit Panama on Friday afternoon.
A statement from the Ministry noted that T&T’s Embassy in Panama City will continue to monitor the situation closely in coordination with local emergency authorities.
The release also confirmed that Minister Sean Sobers has been in direct communication with both the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama and the Ambassador of Panama to Trinidad and Tobago. He conveyed heartfelt support on behalf of the nation and reaffirmed that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago stands ready to assist Panama in any way as relief efforts progress.
Trinidad and Tobago nationals in Panama who require emergency assistance, or citizens concerned about relatives residing in or visiting Panama, are urged to contact the diplomatic mission via email at embttpanama@foreign.gov.tt.
The Ministry said it remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the welfare and security of all Trinidad and Tobago nationals abroad and will provide further updates as information becomes available.
