Police in Ste. Madeleine are investigating the mysterious death of a 12-year-old girl. The body of Mariah Seenath, a student of Ste. Madeleine Secondary School, was discovered just after midday Saturday along a track near the Friendship Village Recreation Ground. According to police, a passerby noticed dogs in the area and on checking, found the child lying motionless with a bruise to her stomach and grass around her neck.
First responders secured the scene and the District Medical Officer later pronounced her dead. The body was removed to the San Fernando General Hospital mortuary, pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre.
Investigators say Mariah was last seen leaving her grandmother’s home that morning, on her way to her father’s residence. Officers from Homicide Region III are leading the investigation.
At this time, police say the cause of death remains unknown.
