Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley publicly thanked African nations for their support in helping the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) access vaccines to deal with COVID-19.
The Prime Minister addressed the inaugural Africa-CARICOM Summit held virtually on Tuesday.
Dr. Rowley said as COVID-19 ravaged the social and economic fabric of CARICOM nations there was priority to source COVID-19 vaccines, but vaccine inequity stymied those plans.
Prime Minister Rowley said that Trinidad and Tobago’s linkages to Africa run deep as marked by the bilateral relationships, observer status at the African Union, High Commissions in Nigeria and South Africa and Honorary Consuls in Ghana and Kenya. He said closer collaboration will undoubtedly be to the mutual benefit of Africa and Caricom whether it be in pursuing development finance, resource utilisation or debt sustainability.
