Police cleared over 12 tonnes of garbage in a major coastal clean-up, as the TTPS Coastal and Air Support Unit targeted the Tembladora coastline, Williams Bay and St Peter’s Bay in the Carenage District.
The clean-up, held from 7 a.m. to noon on Sunday, was carried out in collaboration with community volunteers and key stakeholders. In a media release issued on the same day, the TTPS said the initiative was the first of 12 community and public safety activities planned by the unit for 2026, with a focus on crime prevention, public safety and community engagement.

During the exercise, more than 140 bags of waste were collected, including wood, metal, tyres, single-use plastics and Styrofoam. The debris removed totalled more than 12 volumetric tonnes.
Participating stakeholders included the British High Commission, the Island Property Owners Association, Marine Services Association, the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism, members of the visiting yachting and cruising community, the Chaguaramas Development Authority and the Diego Martin Borough Corporation.
Officers said protecting the environment also improves public safety by reducing hazards, deterring illegal dumping and strengthening maritime security.
