Twenty-eight Secondary School students from across Trinidad and Tobago were awarded the 2025 Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship on Tuesday.
The initiative is geared towards strengthening their academic journey.
At Tuesday’s Recognition Ceremony, the Minister of Education Dr. Michael Dowlath recognised the initiative by the Chinese Embassy, noting that the Scholarship Programme has allowed many young persons to study at world-class institutions.
“Many of these scholarship recipients have returned to Trinidad and Tobago and are now contributing significantly across a wide range of fields: engineering, medicine, business, education, information technology, the creative industries, and more. They stand today as innovators, problem solvers, and nation builders, and their achievements embody the very transformation we are trying and striving to advance within the Trinidad and Tobago education sector.”
He encouraged the chosen students to take advantage of the opportunity to strengthen their academic journey.
“The twenty-eight students who were recommended, you were recommended by your teachers, by your school, by your community – you’d be surprised by the persons who have been looking at you and have found you worthy exemplars to be recommended for this scholarship.”
Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Ren Hongyan, said education is a meaningful pillar of Trinidad and Tobago and China’s bilateral partnerships.
“Our two countries may be far apart geographically, but we share the same belief: investing in education means investing in the future of our nation. Dear students, you are the future and the hope of Trinidad and Tobago. Your success today marks a new beginning, you are better than you think you are. We encourage you to continue working hard, with being curious, and to continue your talent and your passion for the development of your country.”
The Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Programme began in 2022 by the Chinese Embassy in Port-of-Spain. Since then, over ninety Secondary School students have received scholarships.
