The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services on Friday, July 24, 2026, hosted a Disaster Relief and Home Repair Grant Distribution ceremony, delivering grants to twenty nine (29) households in the San Fernando region. A total of ninety-four (94) beneficiaries received support through the initiative, with grants amounting to two hundred and ninety-six thousand, four hundred and thirty-seven dollars (TT$296,437.00)
The distribution included:
· Twenty- four (24) Disaster General Assistance Grants benefiting eighty-two (82) beneficiaries, valued at Two Hundred and twenty-five thousand, five hundred and seventy dollars ($225,570.00)
· Five (5) Home Repair Grants benefiting twelve (12) beneficiaries, valued at Seventy thousand, eight hundred and sixty-seven dollars ($70,867.00)
Delivering the feature address, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, Senator Dr. Natalie Chaitan-Maharaj, stated that “the figures we announce today tell only part of the story. Behind every grant is a family rebuilding after hardship, a parent finding hope again and a household being given the opportunity to move forward with dignity. Every grant represents this Government’s commitment to standing with people during some of the most difficult moments of
their lives.”
She further emphasised the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the delivery of social services, throughthe building of a responsive and accessible social protection system, that places people at the
centre of its work. Senator Dr. Chaitan-Maharaj stated, “Our vision extends beyond today’s grant distribution. We are building a social protection system that people can trust, one that responds, listens and treats everyone with fairness, compassion and respect.”
