Our host Natasha speaks with Natasha Lee, President of the National 4H Executive Council, about an innovative program revolutionising agricultural education in Trinidad and Tobago’s schools.

The featured initiative, “Developing Hydroponics/Aquaponics in Schools to Promote Sustainable Agriculture and Better Nutrition,” represents a groundbreaking collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the National 4H Council of Trinidad and Tobago, and NutriCulture TT.

Ms. Lee shares exciting updates about 4H Tobago’s recent success in implementing hydroponic systems at three educational institutions: Scarborough Secondary School, Little Jewels ECCE Centre, and Roxborough Secondary School. These installations mark significant progress in the nationwide rollout of this forward-thinking program.

This initiative seeks to explore:
• Modernising agricultural education through technology-driven systems.
• Empowering youth with practical skills in teamwork, responsibility, and entrepreneurship.
• Reinforcing STEM education with real-world applications.
• Improving students’ understanding of food security, health, and sustainability.

Ms. Lee also discusses the tangible educational benefits students are experiencing, including hands-on farming knowledge, enhanced nutrition education, deeper understanding of ecosystems, and inclusive learning opportunities for students with diverse needs.

This conversation highlights how innovative agricultural technologies are creating a new generation of environmentally conscious, food-secure citizens right in Trinidad and Tobago’s schools.
