$7M Allocated For CEPEP Closure, Recruitment Drive To Aid Displaced Workers

The Government has allocated TT$7 million to wrap up the operations of the Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP).

This was clarified by Minister of Public Utilities, Barry Padarath, during Day 2 of the Standing Finance Committee.

“The government has clearly articulated that CEPEP will be closed and therefore there is a process and there is a cost associated with winding up the liabilities of the company, and this will be utilised for that.”

The Minister said an executive board remains in place for CEPEP and will remain as long as needed to process the wrap-up.

Responding to Opposition Member Brian Manning on the provisions made for those who were terminated under the programme, Minister Padarath said the Government’s newly-launched recruitment programme is expected to benefit those persons.

“The government has already expressed that in phase one, we will be rolling out 20,000 jobs. So stay tuned for phase two and the other phases to come.”
