WI Defeat Ireland In Warm Up

The West Indies Women’s Senior Cricket Team, recorded a five wicket victory over Ireland, in the first of two One Day International warm up matches, at the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Lahore, Pakistan.

Ireland batted first and got off to a good start courtesy 45 runs from captain Gaby Lewis, who retired hurt.

After the dismissals of Amy Hunter and Sarah Forbes, middle order batter, Laura Delany would score an innings high of 67 runs not out.

Along with contributions of 46 and 28 from Leah Paul and Cara Murray, Ireland ended their innings, on 248 for 8. Hayley Matthews claimed three wickets.

Matthews also did well with the bat, scoring 55 runs to begin the West Indies’ chase.

After Zaida James fell for 45, the experienced Stafanie Taylor picked up the mantel with 53.

Taylor who saw out the innings was aided by 59 runs from the lower order, as the West Indies cruised to their target after 41 overs, scoring 252 for 5.
