Works Minister Engages The Port Authority

Works and Infrastructure Minister, Jearlean John, met with senior officials at the Port Authority to address operations, infrastructure, and plans for reform.

The visit comes amid efforts to improve efficiency at key state enterprises.

The meeting focused on the operations and strategic outlook of the Authority’s three core divisions: the Port of Port of Spain, the Port of Spain Infrastructure Company, and the Inter-Island Ferry Service.

Among the key agenda items were ferry service reliability, infrastructure upgrades, and the progress of a proposed public–private partnership model.

Following the meeting, Minister John toured the Port of Port of Spain, observed daily operations, and met with staff. She acknowledged the challenges faced by the Port Authority and highlighted its role as the country’s only multi-purpose port.

The Minister said she remains committed to supporting the management team in strengthening the port’s regional competitiveness.
