TTPS Confirms Five Students Charged With Assault

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has charged five female students in connection with a violent assault outside Holy Faith Convent in Couva earlier this month.

The incident, which took place on Tuesday, June 10th, involved a 15-year-old student who was attacked near the school premises. She sustained injuries and required medical attention.

Confirmation of the charges against the five students came from Assistant Commissioner in charge of the South/Central and South Western Policing Divisions, Wayne Mystar.

“Following a thorough investigation conducted by WPC Boodoo attached to the Couva Police Station, charges were laid against five females from the Couva district with ages ranging from 14 to 18. All five were charged with the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The charges stem from a reported incident in which a 15-year-old female student of Holy Faith Convent, Couva, was physically assaulted by the group in the vicinity of the school’s premises.”

ACP Mystar said the matter was promptly reported, and investigations led to the formal charges being laid on Wednesday, June 25th.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on acts of violence, especially involving school-aged children, and continues to work with educational institutions, community leaders, and parents to promote peaceful conflict resolution.”

At a Post-Cabinet Media Briefing on June 5th, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced a zero-tolerance policy on school violence. She said if a child batters or assaults another child in school, they will be expelled and will face the full brunt of the law.
