The T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce says it is in the process of expanding its trade alliance and business agreements with other countries within the Pan-Caribbean region.
Speaking at the T&T Chamber’s Business Outlook event on Wednesday, Chamber President Sonji Pierre-Chase highlighted some initiatives that the Chamber has undertaken to assist local businesses.
She said some of the completed initiatives involve strengthening the energy, agriculture, and technology industries, a signed memorandum between T&T and India to bolster job creation, and a signed alliance among several Caribbean countries.
“It pleases me to announce that the Chamber has signed trade alliance and business agreements with several of our Caribbean counterparts, and we are in the process of negotiating to sign several more with our counterparts in the Pan-Caribbean region. These alliances are not mere diplomatic gestures but deliberate instruments that serve as catalysts for knowledge exchange, talent development, and investment in critical areas such as health care, agriculture, and digital innovation.”
Ms. Pierre-Chase encouraged businesses to engage in more collaborative efforts among CARICOM countries, which will not only open doors for businesses within Trinidad and Tobago but all countries within the region.
“The resources in CARICOM are sufficient for us to provide for the needs of our people, what has stopped us for so many years? We have been saying that we want to get it, do we really? The time to act is now. Prosperity must be inclusive. It can’t be for some, it must be for everyone in the region.”
She said although the Chamber continues to prioritise the private sector, it continues to keep sustainability and resilience at the forefront.
