Fire Contained At Ramco Industries – Minister Confirms Four Employees Injured

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Dr. Roodal Moonilal has confirmed that four employees of Ramco Industries have been hospitalised following a fire at the company’s Union Hall, San Fernando compound, on Thursday.

The Minister gave an update on the situation on Thursday night, confirming that fire officials were successful in extinguishing the blaze, which started just after 7pm.

“I visited and was met by the owners of the establishment, the Rahaman family, Mr. Imtiaz Rahaman and other members of the family. I received a briefing from the Fire Services and from the police on the scene. It appears that it was a fire that erupted in an area, a particular area in the compound, but thankfully, it was confined to a particular area and the Fire Service acted, we are informed, quite professionally and had adequate resources to extinguish the blaze and get the blaze under control with both water and foam, and it has been under control there.”

Minister Moonilal said the four injured employees were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where medical staff are working to ensure that they get the best care and recover fully from this incident.

“We understand two may be serious, and we are monitoring that in collaboration with the health authorities, and Minister Lakram Bodoe himself was informed and gave a report on this matter as well. We expect that they will get the best medical help that is needed at this time. We want to say that the families and the injured men are of deep concern to us, and they are in our prayers for a speedy recovery from this really tragic incident.”

Minister Moonilal said a preliminary report from fire officials is expected on Friday, and the OSH Agency “will also be activated to conduct their statutory duties in circumstances like these.”
