Errol Mahabir Memorial Foundation Launches ‘Dreams Take Flight’ Concert Series

In memory of Errol Mahabir, the former Government Minister, Mayor of San Fernando, and advocate for national development, the Errol Mahabir Memorial Foundation will host a concert series to raise funds for financial grants to help talented musicians pursue their artistic dreams.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Mr. Mahabir’s passing on September 19th, the Foundation will host its first major fundraising concert, Dreams Take Flight, at Queen’s Hall on September 13th and 14th, followed by performances at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA) from the 19th to 21st.

At the media launch on Tuesday, Executive Producer Colin Mahabir said the Foundation’s decision to focus on the creative sector was deeply intentional and aligned with Mr. Mahabir’s lifelong passion for the arts.

“We needed to recognise, as Errol did, that the creative sector is not only a vital pillar of cultural identity, it is the powerful engine for social development, innovation, and economic resilience. These concerts, which are not going to be concerts really but very different from what people are accustomed to, will feature a world-class production team and a cast comprising some of the finest musicians that Trinidad and Tobago can offer.”

He explained the show is a story of transformation, demonstrating how belief in oneself and one’s dreams can lead to freedom and hope. Dreams Take Flight will be presented as a musical theatre production, featuring an original narrative told through popular songs spanning genres such as pop, rock, country, and Broadway.

Dreams Take Flight explores the challenges facing some of today’s young people through the stories of a young but hopeful orphan looking to find love in a lonely world; a young woman whose low self-esteem has led her to selling herself on the streets; a confused young man in search of himself and his identity; and a despairing drug and alcohol addict.”

Renowned Trinidadian artist Brian Mac Farlane will serve as the show’s artistic director, bringing his signature creative vision to the production, and cast members will receive support from Sacha Cosmetics and Bally for their performances.
