According to preliminary results released by the Ministry of Education, a total of 8,035 candidates registered for CAPE Units I and II examinations this year, with an overall pass rate above 90% achieved across most subjects. Grade I-V representation increased over the 2024 results, with 91.22% of subject entries receiving passing grades.
The standout performance came in Unit I examinations, which recorded a remarkable pass rate of 95.94%. Of the 31 subjects offering pass rates above 90%, Agricultural Science, Food and Nutrition, Geography, and Performing Arts achieved 100% pass rates. Notable improvements were seen in 13 subjects, including Accounting, Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Communication Studies, and Law.
Unit II results showed a pass rate of 96.34%, representing an improvement from 93.95% in 2024. The examination saw success across 30 subjects, with all achieving 100% pass rates, including Art and Design, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, and Option B French. Twenty subject areas recorded improvements over the previous year.
The CSEC examinations attracted 22,693 candidates with 117,984 subject entries. The overall pass rate (Grades I-III) reached 70.65%, an improvement from 68.00% in 2024.
In a significant achievement, 91.70% of students earned passes in five or more subjects, up from 2024 results. Students achieving five or more passes, including English and Mathematics, also increased to 64.51%.
English emerged as the star performer among core subjects, with pass rates improving to 80.66% from 78.43% in 2024. However, Mathematics continues to present challenges, with pass rates declining to 45.89% from 52.59% in the previous year.
Notable improvements were recorded across 25 subjects, including Mathematics, English A, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Principles of Accounts, and Spanish.
Dr. Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education, emphasized the government’s dedication to educational excellence while acknowledging areas for improvement. “Every child can succeed when given the right support, opportunities, and belief in their potential,” Dowlath stated. “The achievements we celebrate today demonstrate what is possible when we nurture the talents of all our students.”
The Ministry has identified enhancing Mathematics outcomes as a key priority moving forward. Officials indicated that targeted initiatives to strengthen teaching quality and refine curriculum delivery will continue, with the goal of positioning every student for success.
The Ministry extended congratulations to all students for their hard work and resilience during the 2025 examinations, while also recognizing the dedication of teachers, parents, and school leaders who supported student achievement.
Building on these results, the Ministry has committed to working toward even greater accomplishments in 2026, with particular focus on addressing the Mathematics performance gap while maintaining the strong momentum in other subject areas.
