Entrepreneurs in Tobago now have greater access to business guidance and support, as the Tobago Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce has launched a new programme called ‘Mentor Sessions.’
The initiative, which connects entrepreneurs with experienced business leaders, was unveiled on Thursday at the Chamber’s Scarborough office.
The Chamber’s Tobago Division Chairman, Curtis Williams, stated that the launch of “Mentor Sessions” signifies the Tobago Division’s commitment to being practical, impactful, and forward-thinking.
“Through this mentorship we will be ensuring that Tobago entrepreneurs, professionals and young business leaders are well prepared to meet the challenge and opportunities of the future. This programme is more than pairing mentors and mentees. It is about building meaningful relationships, transferring knowledge and creating a supportive network that can drive innovation, resilience and our economy.”
The THA’s Secretary of Tourism, Tashia Burris, commended the Chamber for the foresight and dedication to utilising technology to boost Tobago’s private sector industry. She said those within the Tobago House of Assembly will also take advantage of the programme.
“This is very critical and important, and this is something that the Tobago House of Assembly will continue to support the Chamber in doing because we see them as a key facilitator of the growth of the private sector, and the only way to ensure competitiveness is to ensure that more people are coming into the space.”
The Chamber’s Vice Chairman, Jason Arthur, said the Chamber recognised the importance of the programme. He also demonstrated how to use the online platform to book a session.
“You want to be a mentor, you apply. Once you are approved, you tell us the areas that you have expertise in, and then if you want to be a mentee, you sign up as a Chamber ally, and once you sign up as a Chamber ally, you can tell us the areas that you are interested in, and then the database now is matching yours.”
Thursday’s launch marked the first in a series of additional programmes to be rolled out later this year.
