Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Dr. Roodal Moonilal, recently met with Grenadian officials, including Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, Attorney General Claudette Joseph, and key advisors, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the energy sector.
The meetings took place over the weekend of August 23rd and 24th, 2025, following a mandate given to Minister Moonilal by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar during the swearing-in ceremony of Cabinet members on May 3rd, 2025. The directive called for urgent engagement with the Government of Grenada to explore opportunities for collaboration in energy development.
During the discussions, Minister Moonilal extended warm greetings from Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and highlighted Trinidad and Tobago’s robust and well established energy infrastructure, as well as the extensive experience and technical knowledge the country has gained as a longstanding global hydrocarbon producer
The renewed talks build upon a 2012 Memorandum of Understanding between Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada for cooperation in energy development. Minister Moonilal emphasised Trinidad and Tobago’s readiness to share its oil and gas expertise to support Grenada’s emerging energy sector.
Prime Minister Mitchell, who holds the Cabinet portfolio for energy matters in Grenada, welcomed the opportunity for collaboration and expressed Grenada’s commitment to deepening partnerships with Trinidad and Tobago, especially in the area of support services as Grenada is at the early stage of assessing its hydrocarbon resource potential. Collaboration would allow for the transfer of skills and technology, which in turn would bring mutual benefits to the people of Trinidad and Tobago and the people of Grenada through jobs, income, and opportunities.
In closing, Minister Moonilal thanked Prime Minister Mitchell for the warm reception and reiterated that Trinidad and Tobago’s energy infrastructure remains open for business, offering a viable platform for Caribbean countries to monetize their hydrocarbon resources.
