Kick ’em Jenny Activity Decreases, ODPM Maintains 1.5km Exclusion Zone At Site

The intensity of the seismic activity associated with Kick ’em Jenny, the ‘live’ submarine volcano located between Grenada and Carriacou, has decreased.

A press release from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management on Friday noted that between noon on Thursday and 8:30am on Friday, 72 seismic events were recorded. This corresponds to an average of three to four tremors per hour, which the network says reflects a lower level of activity compared to the start of the episode, which began on Wednesday.

The ODPM reiterated that while activity is continuing, all marine interests should maintain a 1.5-kilometre exclusion zone around the volcano. At this time, the submarine volcano itself poses no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago.
