PM Criticises Opposition Over Budget Vote

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar criticised the Opposition’s position on the 2027 budget in the Lower House on Saturday, arguing that their actions in Parliament undermined the interests of the public.

“They abandoned their constituents recently in the parliament when they left the benches. And today they abandoned the people of Trinidad and Tobago. By failing to put yes to the budget, we still passed it, so don’t worry, thank God. We have enough MPs there on our benches. We passed the budget to service the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”

She maintained that her administration remains committed to delivering on its promises to citizens, insisting that political opposition will not derail the government’s plans.

“But we promise you, when we came to you, we campaigned, we talked with you, we walked with you, we ate with you, and we promise that we will govern Trinidad and Tobago in the best way that we can. And no one but no one will stop us from servicing the people of Trinidad and Tobago. No one. So they could try, but as long as you are with us, they will not ever succeed.”
