The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) continues its intensified efforts to maintain law and order during the ongoing State of Emergency, with two major operations conducted on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, in the districts of Mayaro and Fyzabad. These operations resulted in the arrest of eight suspects and the seizure of illegal ammunition and narcotics.
In the early hours of the morning, between 2am and 7am, officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the TTPS Canine Unit executed coordinated search exercises across five locations in the Mayaro district. The operation was coordinated by Senior Supt Paponette and supervised by Sgt Mohammed. The search teams included K9 officers PC Dopwell and K9 Edo, and WPC Pernell and K9 Choco.
Under the authority granted by the State of Emergency Regulations, the searches led to the arrest of six suspects:
• A 30-year-old man of St Ann’s Village, Mayaro, was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into Malicious Wounding.
• A 65-year-old man of Tambee Lane, Rest House Village, Mayaro, was arrested for the offence of Obscene Language.
• A 55-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman both of Edward Street, Mayaro, were jointly arrested for Possession of Ammunition, after five (5) rounds of 5.56 ammunition were discovered at their residence. Neither individual holds a valid Firearm User’s License.
• A 34-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, of Tambee Lane, Rest House Village, were also jointly arrested for Possession of Ammunition, specifically three (3) rounds of 12-gauge cartridges. Neither is licensed to possess firearms or ammunition.
Later that day, between 12pm and 4pm, a separate intelligence-led operation was executed in the Fyzabad district by officers of the Siparia CID and the South Western Division Task Force (Area West). This operation was led by Senior Superintendent Thompson and coordinated by ASPs Corrie, Forbes, and Inspector Prescott. Supervision was provided by Ag/Sgt Taikan and Cpl Swan, with support from PCs Alexis and Gravin and WPCs Cobham and Ramlochan.
Two arrests were made during this operation:
• A 52-year-old man of Maharaj Trace, Pepper Village, Fyzabad, was arrested for Possession of 740 grams of cannabis.
• A 34-year-old man of Berridge Trace, Mon Desir, South Oropouche, was arrested for Possession of 375 grams of cannabis.
The TTPS remains resolute in its mission to protect and serve the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. These operations reflect our continued efforts to remove illegal firearms, ammunition, and narcotics from our communities, and to ensure that those who seek to disrupt public safety are held accountable under the law.
