Alliance Française Hosts Culture Fair To Celebrate French Heritage

In a vibrant show of cultural expression, the Alliance Française of Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to celebrate the French language and heritage through its culture fair.

The event serves as a launchpad ahead of the new school term.

Director of the Alliance Française, Anyka Batista, shared the various ways the organisation continues to promote French education and culture within the local landscape.

“We are really proud to welcome everyone today and there’s lots of activities. There will be an open French class for beginners, another for the intermediate level. We also have a patois introduction session, and we have games. We have French games, so it’s called ‘pétanque’ it’s a little bit like bowling. We also have different activities for kids. There’s a kids’ corner with short movies and films, and right here in this library, we will be having art classes.”

Ms. Batista also noted the Alliance will provide several teaching opportunities for young people across the country.

“At the Alliance Française, every year we offer job opportunities as well, thanks to French, we accompany 15-20 persons, 20 young people every year, to teach English in France. So you live in France, and you experience the culture. It’s a full immersion, and you’re teaching English in colleges and schools across the country.”

The Alliance will be hosting its culture fair from September 22nd until early December at 17 Alcazar Street, Port of Spain.
