The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is warning members of the public that climbing or coming into contact with or close to electricity lines can result in death by electrocution.
T&TEC, in a media release, said it is investigating an incident where an unknown person was seen at the top of a transmission tower on Caspian Drive, Point Lisas.
T&TEC said initial findings confirm that the person breached security barriers and ignored safety signs to access the tower.
The Commission is advising the public that the electricity lines on transmission towers are energised up to 220,000 volts and is strongly cautioning persons to stay away from T&TEC’s infrastructure.
T&TEC said it values the safety of the public around its infrastructure and urges citizens to use the emergency hotline, 800-TTEC or 800-8832, to report dangerous situations like the one seen in the video.
