Silver Ferns Crowned Commonwealth Games Netball Champions

New Zealand are Commonwealth Games netball champions for the first time in sixteen years.

The Silver Ferns held their nerve against a fierce Jamaican fightback at The Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

New Zealand Silver Ferns led from the very first attack of their gold medal clash with Jamaica at the Commonwealth games in Scotland, never once trailing in the contest.

The Silver Ferns opened a five-goal gap in the opening quarter, before Jamaica’s Romelda Aiken struck twice late to make it 16-13.

The sides traded goals through a tense second quarter, and Jamaica levelled again in the third but New Zealand restored their cushion before the final hooter, then pulled away to win 56-48.

It’s New Zealand’s first netball gold since 2010, and their third Commonwealth Games title overall.
