In a stirring tribute to national pride and unity, Soca artiste Aaron Duncan is calling on the people of Trinidad and Tobago to celebrate their roots through his new hit single, ‘Birthplace’ — a message promoting unity, social awareness, and patriotism.
As he took centre stage during the launch of Carnival 2026 at the Brian Lara Promenade on Friday, he noted that despite the growth of the industry, more needs to be done to promote it internationally.
“We missing the love for a Soca Monarch competition. I know they had one, the Soca Champions, but I mean like ramming out the stadium as how we used to do back in the days, before I was born, and stuff like that, I feel like we missing the kind of love that’s what we need to come back, that support for Soca music, that support for our culture.”
He said through ‘Birthplace’ he hopes to encourage the public to be more patriotic, specifically mentioning a phrase from the song, “we nah leaving” — an ode to national pride and love.
“Right now we need to come together as a country and show the world that no matter what comes our way, we not leaving. We love Trinidad and Tobago and we must always spread that message because this our home and we don’t want nobody to show that they trying to destroy what we have built for so many years.”
In his parting message to new and upcoming artistes, he noted that the key ingredients in the recipe for success are hard work and determination.
“Just work hard on your craft you know, don’t give up. I would say that is the most important advice. Never give up. A lot of people know that the industry is a very hard one but you must continue pushing and one day, you will succeed. Once God is behind you, you will succeed.”
