The United National Congress (UNC) is mourning the passing of the Councillor for Siparia East/San Francique South, Romona Victor.
Ms. Victor, 36, was discovered dead at her Coora Branch Road home sometime after 4pm on Sunday.
Her husband, 45-year-old Rodney Ramsumair, was also discovered dead at the couple’s home.
TTT News understands that the discovery was made by a relative.
Siparia Mayor Doodnath Mayhroo, in condolences posted on social media, said, “We pause to honour the life and legacy of Councillor Romona Victor for Siparia East/San Francique South, a truly dedicated and hard-working servant of the Siparia Borough Corporation.”
Mayhroo said Councillor Victor’s unwavering commitment to her community, her passion for service, and her tireless efforts to uplift others will forever be remembered.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has also extended condolences to the family and friends of Councillor Victor.
In a post on social media, the Prime Minister said she was a dedicated representative for Siparia East and San Francique South, whose life ended under the most painful and distressing circumstances.
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar added that this tragedy reminds us of how complex and fragile personal circumstances can be, and reinforces the importance of reaching out for help, and of ensuring that anyone facing quiet struggles feels supported, encouraged, and safe to come forward without fear or hesitation.
