Labour Ministry Plans To Move 18 Short-Term Workers To Contract Employment

The Government is moving to formalise employment arrangements within the Ministry of Labour, Small and Micro Enterprise Development, with plans to transition 18 workers from short-term positions to contract employment.

Responding to questions on Day Two of the Standing Finance Committee, Minister of Labour, Small and Micro Enterprise Development Leroy Baptiste said the Ministry currently employs 40 workers under the contract employment line item and anticipates increasing that number by converting short-term positions.

“We anticipate the move. So the anticipation is to move at least 18 persons who are on short-term to contract. So that is an increase of 18.”
