UNC Women’s Arm Defends PM, Accuses PNM League Of Misleading Statement

The Women’s Arm of the United National Congress is condemning the regressive and misleading statement issued by the PNM Women’s League regarding the incident in Parliament involving the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and MP Colm Imbert.

In a media release, the UNC Women’s Arm said, “The video speaks for itself – MP Colm Imbert aggressively pointed his fingers at the Prime Minister – a disrespectful, intimidating and hostile gesture. The Prime Minister firmly told him, ‘Don’t point at me.'”

The UNC Women’s Arm added that a woman stood up to a bully — and the PNM Women’s League attacked her.

Further, the Women’s Arm condemned the PNM Women’s League, saying it was created in the colonial era, when women were expected to stay at home, not to advance women’s issues, but to support the men of the party.

Thus, the UNC Women’s Arm will continue to defend all women who face aggression, disrespect, or attempts at domination — whether in Parliament or any space in this nation.
