PM Persad-Bissessar Dismisses Venezuela’s Energy Threat, Backs US Partnership

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has expressed strong support for the United States’ continued assistance to Trinidad and Tobago, while making it clear that she is unconcerned by the Venezuelan government’s decision to immediately terminate any energy-related ties between the two countries.

Her remarks come amid fresh developments in the ongoing and increasingly strained relations between the United States and Venezuela, which have continued to affect regional dynamics in the Caribbean.

Speaking on the matter, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar reiterated that Trinidad and Tobago stands firmly with the United States. She emphasised that any grievances expressed by the Venezuelan government should be addressed directly to US President Donald Trump, rather than being directed at Trinidad and Tobago.

The Prime Minister also dismissed Venezuela’s announcement outright, describing it as “false propaganda.” She said the statement did not cause her concern and reaffirmed that her government remains focused on protecting Trinidad and Tobago’s national interests and maintaining strong international partnerships, particularly with key allies such as the United States.
