“We Need Drug-Free Spaces”: Pastor Clive Dottin Sounds Alarm At Cunupia Event

St. Anthony’s Park in Cunupia was transformed into a vibrant hub of fun, food, and laughter as families within the community came together to partake in the annual youth event called “I Love My Community.”

Pastor and social advocate Clive Dottin described the event as the “best youth and family activity on the calendar,” noting that such initiatives serve as important social building blocks for families and communities across the country.

“The major problem affecting the Caribbean and the youth is the absence of drug-free spaces. Almost every activity for youth involves alcohol, ganja, you know what I mean? A kind of wildness, but what he says the powers that be must do and social groups like NGOs must do is create safe spaces for young people and their parents. That is what must happen.”

The Fathers Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TFATT), a prominent organisation dedicated to promoting positive fatherhood and addressing issues related to paternity, also joined in the fun.

The President of the association, Rhondall Feeles, said the group’s message to the nation is one rooted in love, responsibility, and active involvement in family and community life.

“I realise that as age steps in we let our diversity divide us. What we could try to do is emulate these little children and show love regardless of our diversity, and that is my message for 2026.”
