Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro has confirmed that officers are engaged in an active manhunt for a lone suspect, following a deadly police sting operation in St Joseph on Friday, aimed at addressing the surge in robberies linked to Facebook Marketplace transactions.
The confrontation occurred during an intelligence-led sting on Mt. Hope Road, where officers posing as vehicle buyers were ambushed by four men who opened fire after realising that they were police.
Officers returned fire, killing two suspects and injuring a third, while a fourth escaped, prompting a manhunt.
In a voice note sent from the T&T Police Service, Commissioner Guevarro issued a warning to anyone harbouring or assisting the lone suspect who escaped and urged anyone with information on the fugitive’s whereabouts to immediately contact the Police Service.
The Commissioner also continued to warn the public about the growing threat of criminals exploiting online platforms.
He urged citizens to be vigilant when conducting digital marketplace transactions, particularly those involving isolated meeting points, irregular payment requests or anonymous sellers.
