Tertiary Education Minister: GATE Payment Processes Being Followed

Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Professor Prakash Persad, says the standard GATE payment processes for students are being followed, and has assured that no student will be left behind.

He was addressing a question in the Lower House regarding the timing of GATE payments, especially for students enrolled at UWI Jamaica and the University of the Southern Caribbean.

Minister Persad said he has already engaged with the GATE administration, noting that payments have been completed for some students and are scheduled for others.

“GATE has paid $21 million for this financial year to date, $30 million is currently in process to be sent to the Ministry of Finance, and $69 million in fees are outstanding. The payment of fees is a continuous process and is continuing as normal. This is nothing unusual.”
