The end of the State of Emergency in Trinidad and Tobago at midnight on September 17th, 2026, does not mean the end of public safety.
This assurance comes from Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Suzette Martin.
“The end of the State of Emergency does not mean the end of our commitment to public safety. It means we transition to a sustained intelligence-led and community-focused policing posture. Under Operation Watch Tower 2026, the watch continues. Our three micro police units will serve as operational anchors.”
DCP Martin reminded citizens that they need to continue working in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to ensure safer communities for all citizens.
“Safer communities cannot be achieved by the Police Service alone. It requires partnership. We need our communities to continue engaging with us, sharing information and working alongside our officers. The State of Emergency may end, our responsibility to public safety does not.”
Since late 2024, Trinidad and Tobago has spent almost 14 of the past 21 months under States of emergency, with only brief interruptions between successive declarations.
