The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), today, Friday, February 13, 2026, continued the delivery of Home Repair and Disaster General Assistance Grants to benefit vulnerable households across the country.
A total of sixteen (16) households from the Port of Spain and Diego Martin areas received Home Repair Grants totalling three hundred and thirty-two thousand, nine hundred and sixty dollars ($332,960.00), which will go towards the benefit of forty-five (45) individuals. This initiative continues to enable families to repair and improve the safety and functionality of their homes. Additionally, nine (9) households, representing twenty (20) beneficiaries, received eighty thousand, two hundred and sixty-nine dollars ($80,269.00) in Disaster Assistance Grants to help in faster and more resilient recovery.
The Ministry remains committed to improving the quality of life for citizens recovering from disaster and those facing financial hardship. The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services reasserted that it is the Ministry’s fulfilment of a solemn responsibility of the Government, to stand with its people during times of need.
She stated that, “This is what people-centred governance looks like. It is not enough to make promises. It is not enough to issue statements. We must deliver. And we must deliver with speed, compassion, and accountability.”
Minister Mohit further stated that the Ministry, through its service delivery arms such as the NSDP, continues to prioritise the support it gives to the most vulnerable citizens.
“Let it be known that when applications are submitted, they are not placed in a pile to gather dust. They are assessed. They are prioritised, and they are actioned. The mandate is clear, where there is verified need, there must be responsive support,” the Minister said.
The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services acts as a second responder in times of disaster, delivering critical relief through financial grants and psychosocial support to families rendered vulnerable by unforeseen events.
The Ministry continues to be steadfast in prioritising responsive social protection programmes that ease immediate hardship while fostering long-term stability, resilience, and empowerment for all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
