Machel To Shift Focus from Competition To Youth Development

Just one day after securing his record-breaking 12th Road March title, Soca powerhouse Machel Montano is addressing the question on the minds of many: what’s next?

During a press conference on Thursday, he made it clear that he is not retiring but rather stepping back from the constant grind of competition to focus on building a legacy.

With twelve Road March titles under his belt, Machel Montano said he wants to close this chapter by giving back to the youth and investing in the next generation.

“Now we can speak with authority today because we are sitting at the top of the mountain that we worked very hard to get to, and if somebody wants to look up to us, you should trust that person who has the experience under their belt because guess what? We want to launch a programme that is now going to give all the secrets of what he does, what he does, what he does, what I do, what he do, what all of us do, marketing, distribution. We want to launch this programme for young people to access.”

Machel’s manager, Che Kothari, gave insight into the programme, which they have been working on for the past year.

“We have filmed hours and hours of interviews with Machel, where he breaks down everything as part of his journey. We did this film called ‘The Journey of A Soca King, Like a Boss,’ right? That was a film for people to watch and to be inspired. But now, which is in theatres right now across Trinidad and Tobago and in Guyana, now have documented the process behind that journey, from songwriting, production, artist management, marketing, mental health.”

Mr. Kothari shared that the programme will be launched in partnership with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, the European Union, bmobile, and other partners.
