The TT Premier Football League is nearing the end of the season, and teams are jockeying for position to grab a place in post-season CONCACAF competitions. One of those teams is AC Port of Spain, and in their way on Friday were FC Eagles. Here are the highlights from La Horquetta.
5th-place AC Port of Spain got a big win over 3rd-place Police FC on the last Match Day in the TT Premier Football League and were confident of building on that when they met third-from-bottom FC Eagles of Cunupia on Friday at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground in Phase Two.
Eagles had a poor start to the season but got some wins with an inspired Jomoul Francois returning to top-flight football and scoring some goals for the Cunupia outfit, but Eagles lost Francois to ACPOS in the transfer window, and they were clearly disappointed. That disappointment eased in the 42nd minute when Kemuel Rivers delivered a free kick, and Joshua Alexander sneaked behind the ACPOS defence and beat Marvin Phillip to make it 1-0.
That was the score at half-time.
In the second half, Francois tried to pull one back for his new team with a spectacular effort, but his attempt trickled wide.
Those comeback aspirations were dented by Joshua Alexander when he made a big run from his own half and slipped the ball to Jadon Carter, who got it past the ACPOS goalkeeper, making it 2-0 Eagles in the 77th minute.
There would be no way back for the Capital men, AC Port of Spain going down 2-0 to FC Eagles of Cunupia, who jumped out of the relegation zone with the win.
