Candidates For TUCO Presidency Invited To Debate On TTT

State broadcaster Trinidad and Tobago Television has indicated its willingness to facilitate a live, televised debate ahead of the upcoming election for the presidency of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation, TUCO.

Speaking on Talk City 91.1fm, TTT’s Chairman, Michael Kerr voiced the invitation on Tuesday’s Ground Report, to any candidates contesting the leadership position, and who indicated their interest.

“When you’re talking about Calypso, I want to share with you and of course, to all the avid listeners out there on Talk City, on TTT and along with the staff of TTT is more than willing to facilitate a live debate on television for those vying for the position of president of TUCO. So those who are interested can reach out to us and we’ll have that debate set up.”

He explained that the initiative is rooted in openness and accountability, noting that there has been significant public discussion surrounding the upcoming TUCO election and concerns about governance and the use of funds within the organisation.

“We think we have the a responsibility to you the people of course when it comes to transparency and there’s so much being said about this upcoming election I think it’s only fear that we bring it directly to the people.”

He added that a debate would give TUCO members, stakeholders and the wider public an opportunity to hear directly from those seeking office, ask questions, and better understand their plans and priorities.
The proposed forum would also include opportunities for questions from the public, including participation from members of the diaspora.

“There will be an opportunity for the general public. As a matter of fact, we’d also have people who will be online that you can pose your questions to the diaspora that are out there who would want to make, you know, their voices heard and ask questions. So there’ll be an opportunity for everyone to make that input for something as important when it comes to our culture.”
