Paria Fuel Trading Company has handed over a refurbished cricket cage at San Fernando Central Secondary School, a project aimed at expanding sporting opportunities for students.
Officials say the initiative will help nurture talent, foster teamwork and responsibility, while supporting the school’s continued contribution to national development.
As Paria Fuel Trading Company Ltd. held the handover ceremony for the refurbished cricket cage at the recreation ground of San Fernando Central Secondary School on Sunday, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Dr. Roodal Moonilal, championed the initiative.
The former Mod Sec student pointed out that the school has produced several other distinguished alumni, including DPP Senior Counsel Roger Gaspard, and High Court judge Betsy Ann Lambert Peterson.
He noted that their achievements highlight the school’s significant contribution to national development.
Minister of Education, Dr, Michael Dowlath is also hopeful that the facility will give overlooked students opportunities to participate, learn teamwork, and develop responsibility outside of the classroom.
Interim Chairman of Paria, Kent Samlal, says it will continue to support schools, especially those within its fenceline communities.
Phase one of the project also saw the company assist with clearing and drainage improvements in the school.
Principal, Cindy Khan said that the facility will provide students with opportunities to explore their talents.
Shortly after her remarks, students also expressed their excitement to begin utilising their new cricket cage.
Dr. Dowlath assured that while it embraces partnerships like these, the Ministry of Education will also continue to do its part to help students compete on the global stage, by embracing technology and providing laptops to make education more accessible.
