Investigation Launched Into Illegal Dumping In Mc Bean

The Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation will investigate those responsible for illegal dumping in the Mc Bean area.

Corporation Chairman Ryan Rampersad and a team of officials expressed disappointment after visiting the site on Wednesday.

He said the issue is ongoing in several parts of the region and warned that it will not be taken lightly.

“Contractors are supposed to collect the garbage in the various communities and take it to the various landfill sites. We have two sites that we usually use, either the Beetham site or, as we in Central, the Forres Park landfill site. These trucks are supposed to be getting a docket that they would have dumped their garbage, you know, at the various landfill sites. We will be collaborating with SWMCOL, and we’ll be going all out to find out who the perpetrator is. Our little wardens will be here, they’ll be going through every bag to identify possible utility bills, something with an address or something like that. What we have heard and what we have experienced over the last couple weeks is that people dumping this, after a couple days, they come and light it afire.”

Mr. Rampersad stressed that such actions are unacceptable.

“Our Corporate Secretary will be looking at the legal terms that guide these contracts and will be taking the strictest action that we can against the perpetrators. We are not accepting that in CTTRC and this should not be acceptable anywhere in Trinidad and Tobago.”
