PM : T&T Not Being Sidelined By Venezuela

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says she does not believe Trinidad and Tobago is being sidelined, as Venezuela’s acting president continues a series of high-level meetings with regional leaders across the Caribbean.

According to newspaper reports, Mrs Persad Bissessar said discussions between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela remain ongoing, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintaining regular contact with Caracas.

Her comments follow recent regional visits by Venezuela’s acting president to Barbados and Grenada, where talks focused on energy cooperation, food production, and air connectivity.

The Prime Minister, however, dismissed suggestions of any diplomatic slight, saying she is comfortable with the current state of relations and that engagement continues through established diplomatic channels.

She also pointed to shifting regional dynamics, noting that Venezuela’s leader is now engaging more broadly across the Caribbean following earlier travel restriction.
