The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic have officially signed an Air Services Agreement, marking an important step in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding air connectivity between the Caribbean and Latin America.
The Agreement was signed on Monday 25th May 2026, during an official ceremony at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic. The Agreement will govern air transportation services between Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic.
Senator the Honourable Eli Zakour, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, led the Trinidad and Tobago delegation, while His Excellency Roberto Álvarez, Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the Government of the Dominican Republic. Also in attendance were government officials, members of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), diplomatic representatives, and aviation stakeholders.
The Air Services Agreement represents a significant milestone in advancing aviation cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic.
In his remarks, Minister Zakour highlighted the critical role of the aviation sector in driving economic growth and strengthening connectivity across the Caribbean and Latin America. He noted that the Agreement will provide greater flexibility in air services, improve connectivity, and support tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Minister Zakour also reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to modernising and strengthening the aviation sector through strategic international partnerships.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation extends sincere appreciation to the Government of the Dominican Republic for its warm hospitality and acknowledges the efforts of officials from both countries whose dedication contributed to the successful conclusion of the Agreement.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago looks forward to the implementation of the Agreement and the continued strengthening of bilateral relations with the Dominican Republic.
