I extend heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the Roman Catholic community and all Christians throughout Trinidad and Tobago on the occasion of Corpus Christi (the Feast of the Body of Christ).
At its heart, this sacred feast reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice, His boundless love for humanity, and His promise to remain with us through every trial, challenge, and triumph. Through the Holy Eucharist, Christians draw spiritual nourishment, strength, and hope, trusting in God’s grace and providence.
Across our nation today, the faithful will gather in prayer, worship, and Eucharistic processions, publicly bearing witness to Christ’s presence in their lives.
In doing so, they remind us that faith is not merely something we profess, but something we live out through service to others, love of neighbour, and commitment to the common good.
It is perhaps fitting, therefore, that in Trinidad and Tobago, Corpus Christi has long been associated with another expression of faith: the planting of crops and the blessing of seeds.
Coinciding with the onset of the rainy season, generations of citizens have risen early on Corpus Christi morning to sow seeds and prepare the land, trusting that what is sown today will yield an abundant harvest in the months ahead.
This cherished tradition beautifully reflects the deeper message of Corpus Christi.
Just as a seed must be planted and nurtured before it bears fruit, so too must faith, compassion, integrity, and love be cultivated in our hearts before they can strengthen our families, communities, and nation.
As the Holy Bible reminds us:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
Corpus Christi also offers an opportunity to recognise the invaluable contributions of the Roman Catholic community and Christians throughout Trinidad and Tobago to our nation’s development.
Through worship, service, education, charity, and community leadership, they continue to exemplify the values of faith, compassion, and love of neighbour, helping to build a stronger, more caring, and more united society.
On this Corpus Christi holiday, let us give thanks for God’s many blessings, pray for those facing hardship, and recommit ourselves to sowing the seeds of faith, kindness, and unity that will strengthen our nation for generations.
May this sacred feast deepen our faith, renew our hope, and inspire us to continue building a Trinidad and Tobago grounded in compassion, service, and love.
May God continue to bless Trinidad and Tobago and all its people. Blessed Corpus Christi.
