Trinidad and Tobago is among a group of countries, joining the United States, and several Latin American nations who have issued a joint statement condemning efforts to destabilise Bolivia’s government.
The statement, released under the “Shield of the Americas” framework, expresses support for President Rodrigo Paz, who was elected earlier this year.
It accuses some groups of attempting to block the delivery of food, medicine, and other essential supplies through road blockades, describing the actions as efforts to undermine democratic governance.
The countries involved say Bolivia’s elected government must be allowed to function, while urging those with grievances to pursue dialogue rather than disruptive protests.
The statement also calls for accountability for any alleged links between protest funding and organised crime.
Bolivia is currently experiencing a severe political and economic crisis marked by nationwide protests, riots, and major blockades around the administrative capital, La Paz.
