Alliance Française Celebrates 75 Years With Fête de la Musique

Music lovers gathered at Sound Forge in Port of Spain on Thursday evening for Fête de la Musique 2026, an annual celebration of World Music Day that also marked the 75th anniversary of the Alliance Française of Trinidad and Tobago.

Music filled the air at Sound Forge as patrons turned up to Fete de la Musique, for an evening dedicated to cultural exchange, community and entertainment through song.

The Ambassador of France to Trinidad and Tobago Guillaume Pierre explained that free public concert featured a diverse lineup of local performers, showcasing genres ranging from Soca and Steelpan to pop and indie music.

“Basically a moment where all musics are shown, proposed, played and it shows the universal language which is music. Whatever you listen to, jazz, classical, songs, guitar, pan, everybody understands, everybody enjoys.”

The event was hosted by the Alliance Française with support from the French Embassy and the City of Port of Spain.

“Director of Alliance Française Trinidad and Tobago said this year’s edition carried added significance as the institution celebrated 75 years of promoting French language and culture in Trinidad and Tobago.”

Alliance Française was created in Trinidad and Tobago in 1951, even before the first French Embassy here. So we’re really, really proud and we’re really happy to be teaching French, promoting French culture across Trinidad and Tobago
