Minister of Homeland Security and Member of Parliament for Tunapuna, Roger Alexander, is welcoming Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s announcement on Monday on the establishment of joint army-police posts across Trinidad and Tobago, including two locations within the Tunapuna constituency.
In a statement, Minister Alexander noted that the initiative is just one of several upcoming measures to address crime.
“This is just one of our anti-crime initiatives and one of 15 measures to come. These posts will not only increase the presence and visibility of our law enforcement officers but also help restore public trust and confidence while providing citizens with a greater sense of safety and security.”
Minister Alexander said the Ministry will continue working closely with the protective services to confront crime and protect all law-abiding citizens.
Similarly, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Mayaro, Nicholas Morris, welcomed the announcement and thanked the Prime Minister after his constituency was selected to receive one of the 30 joint army-police posts being established across the country.
“Many communities have for years requested increased security presence, and the protective services and government are moving aggressively to provide such. These joint army-police posts will provide a sense of comfort and help communities regain the use of their public spaces.”
Of the 30 planned posts, 24 locations have already been identified across the country. They are:
- Tarouba Flyover
- Grand Bazaar Interchange
- Couva Interchange
- Williamsville Junction
- Guayaguayare (next to Indian Bay)
- Junction of Rochard Road and Penal Rock Road
- Junction of Rochard Douglas Road and Cumoto Road (next to cricket ground)
- Intersection of Southern Main Road, La Romain and South Trunk Road/Highway (adjacent to Paria Suites)
- Junction of Todd’s Road and Caparo Valley Road (near Todd’s Road recreation ground)
- Junction of Tamana Road and Cumoto Road
- Kelly Village, Caroni
- Demerara Road, Churchill Roosevelt Highway
- Area between Aranguez Main Road, Johnny King Road and Bridge Road
- Eddie Hart Grounds, Tunapuna
- A second site to be determined in Tunapuna
- Icacos Junction
- A location along Toco Main Road
- Carlsen Field
- Felicity, Chaguanas
- Lady Young Road (near the walkover)
- Acono Road, St Joseph
- Malgretoute Junction, Princes Town (opposite the WASA booster station)
- Golconda Interchange
