After a long hiatus, it was a return to remember for Trinidad and Tobago National powerlifter Rondel Hunte, who won gold in the men’s open 120-kilogram division at the IPF World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships in Lithuania.
After receiving a warm welcome from the home crowd, Hunte began with an impressive squat of 370 kg that saw him finish fourth in that category.
Hunte went on to put in strong performances in the deadlift and bench press categories to capture gold while breaking the total record with 1,000 kilograms.
Hunte’s victory also sees him qualify for the prestigious Sheffield V Powerlifting Championships.
The open men’s 120 kg division also saw a third-place finish for world junior champion, T&T’s Josep McDonald, who captured bronze with a total score of 965 kg.
