The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) commenced its 2026
undergraduate programme. Over the coming weeks, 44 interns will take part in a structured
programme, designed to allow these future professionals to gain real-world experience and
afford them meaningful learning opportunities. From hands-on project assignments to
mentorship from experienced professionals, they will be a part of Trinidad and Tobago’s most
important energy companies — and learn what it truly means to be part of the working
professional world.
In welcoming its newest cohort of students to its 2026 Undergraduate Programme, this exciting
milestone reflects NGC’s ongoing dedication to nurturing young talent, sharing knowledge and
helping the next generation of professionals grow into the leaders our nation. Students from a
wide range of academic backgrounds are joining the programme, bringing fresh perspectives and
ideas to the table. They will work side by side with technical, administrative and operational
teams, putting classroom learning into practice and discovering how their skills translate into a
real-time, professional environment.
And it’s not just about the day-to-day work experience – the programme will also feature a series
of engaging professional development sessions designed to help students grow in every
dimension. Topics include financial literacy; energy conservation and sustainability; conflict
resolution; workplace professionalism and interview skills — tools which they will need to step
confidently into their careers.
NGC’s Acting President, Edmund Subryan, told the undergraduates, “You have earned your place
in this programme from a field of more than 600 applicants, and that is an achievement in itself.
Over the next seven weeks, I encourage you to be curious, ask questions, challenge ideas
respectfully and take advantage of every opportunity to learn. We hope you leave NGC with a
deeper understanding of our role in Trinidad and Tobago’s development, practical experiences
that complement your studies, and a greater appreciation of the impact you can have as future
leaders of our nation.”
This new undergraduate programme was designed by the Board, led by Chairman Gerald
Ramdeen, in collaboration with management. Upon assumption of office, the Board found that
the undergraduate programme that existed, was only afforded to the children of employees of
NGC. The ordinary student whose parent was not an employee of the Company, had no chance
of earning an internship. This policy was disbanded by the new Board, and the internship
programme was expanded to include all students with no pre-conditions.
NGC’s Chairman stated, “The undergraduate programme is one of the many changes that have
been made across The NGC Group to ensure that our students understand there is a place for
each of them in the energy sector of Trinidad and Tobago. Each of these young professionals is a
symbol of sacrifice, hard work, discipline and dedication. We have a duty to ensure that they are
transformed into the leaders of tomorrow and this programme is designed to achieve just that.”
As Trinidad and Tobago looks ahead to the opportunities and challenges of an ever-evolving
energy landscape, NGC remains committed to being part of the solution — starting with our most
important resource, our human capital. The Undergraduate Programme is one of the many ways
NGC is investing in a talented, capable and resilient workforce ready to return Trinidad and
Tobago to being the leader in energy in the Caribbean and Latin America.
